Colombia is a place of natural wealth and diversity, full of mountains, valleys, plains, moors and jungles. In my case, I was born and raised in the capital city of Bogota, which is 2,625 meters above sea level, which means that this is a rather cold city, which makes me someone who is used to cold weather. On the other hand, Bogota is located in the centre of the entire country, which means that it takes more than 20 hours by car to get to the famous and hot Caribbean coast of Colombia.
As a good Latina, I had my celebration when I turned 15, and my parents also had the opportunity to give me as a gift my first trip to discover the immensity of the sea. And when I was 15 I went to the heroic city, the emblem of the coast in Colombia, Cartagena de Indias.

Cartagena is a city strongly marked by the history of Colombia this was the first city in the whole country to declare itself free from Spain, and its most notable feature is the historic centre of the city called “The Walled City” declared a World Heritage Site the walls of this city were built during the colonial era to defend the city that housed great riches from maritime attacks. Walking in narrow cobbled streets, between colourful houses and imposing churches is magical and makes Cartagena a unique city.
Tatiana Gomez, who works with the company Orion Group, is dedicated to planning and selling tourist plans, Cartagena being the most sought-after destination. A plan to visit this beautiful city for two people for four days can cost 2,300,000 COP (750 CAD). Tatiana describes Cartagena as a city rich in culture, full of colours and perfect with its beaches.
“Beyond the richness of the city, its imposing walls and its beautiful sunsets, I consider Cartagena to be a beautiful city for the experiences it allows you to live” says Tatiana.

However, she recommends being careful with your belongings when you are on the beach. As a tourist, it is necessary to be aware that the job of certain people in the city is to be street vendors, sadly the reputation of these people is to charge unfair prices to visitors, so it is necessary to be cautious and think twice when buying something, especially on the beach.
As an extra tip, once in Cartagena, it is necessary to visit the island of Baru, which is located one hour from Cartagena by land, a spectacular island with white sand, crystal clear waters and gentle waves.
Going to Colombia and not visiting its jewel in the Caribbean, the heroic Cartagena de Indias is almost unforgivable.
